Most essential oils in the United States are industrial or commercial quality? In the U.S., the demand for essential oils is in the production of industrial household products or for use in foods, beverages, cosmetics, personal care products, candles, soaps, etc. Because these products are expected to smell, taste or appear identical from batch to batch, year to year, essential oils used in industrial or commercial products must be standardized in a laboratory to meet the criteria set by manufacturers. You expect your cola drink to taste exactly the same. If it doesn't, you would probably switch brands. You demand it - you get it.
HOWEVER, in Europe, a medical doctor is likely to first recommend a therapeutic quality essential oil for healing the human body rather than suggest a prescription drug - it's been that way for centuries.
Therapeutic essential oils are agricultural products, derived from specifically identified botanicals that are grown, harvested, distilled for their known healing properties and variations in aroma quality and chemical composition are expected. Therapeutic essential oils are never changed from the point of distillation. If an essential oil fails to meet the high therapeutic standards of the medical community, it is rejected and becomes available for industrial/commercial use. Therapeutic quality standards are the highest known and set by Europe's physicians and pharmacies for use in healing - remember, it's been that way for centuries.
